Kalidas wrote a number of such excellent dramas like Sakuntala, Malavikagnimitram, Vikramorvasiyam, epics like the Raghuvamsa and the lyric poetry like the Ritu-Samhara and the Meghadoota.

If the best-known work of the Kalidas is his drama Sakuntala, his Meghadoota is among the most fascinating little poems ever written in Sanskrit.  In the field of drama as well as poetry Kalidas’ work remains unsurpassed as well as unrivalled.

His poetry is characterized by grace, simplicity and sentiment. His work is famous not only for their aesthetic beauty and poetic appeal, but also for the ideal it places in front of us.
